NATURE OF WORK:
Under general supervision, perform skilled work of Journeyman level, maintaining and repairing County buildings and facilities; perform other work as required or assigned and work the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

TYPICAL DUTIES:
The ability to get along with other crew members, take construction from start to finish, blueprint reading, layout projects, ground work, concrete, form setting, rebar layout and installation, concrete finisher, framer, sheet rock, tape and texture, plumbing, stem walls, build cabinets, drop ceilings, metal building erection, finished carpenter work, evaporated coolers, engage in maintaining and repairing County buildings and facilities; performs specific maintenance and repair work including stucco, knowledge of painting, staining, spraying metal roofs, shingle roofs, framing, floor coverings, tile, wood floors, ceramic tile, masonry, install doors, windows, door locks and the ability to use the tools needed to complete all above jobs. May be required to observe, control & Supervise inmate activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working Knowledge of:

  • occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • principles, methods, and materials used in maintenance and construction.
  • the practices and principles of supervision.
  • skilled in estimating, cost and budgeting projects.
  • knowledge of safety practices.

Considerable Knowledge of:

  • methods and materials used for carpentry, masonry, plumbing and general maintenance tasks.
  • operating hand and power tools used in performing maintenance and repair tasks.

Ability to:

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
  • communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • follow verbal and written instructions.
  • interpret sketches and penciled layouts.
  • perform manual labor including heavy lifting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in general maintenance or electrical repair work including one (1) year of supervisory work experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Possession of a valid Arizona driver’s license.
(This classification is FLSA NON-EXEMPT)

This position pays $19.07 per hour.
