St. Johns Justice Court

DEFINITION:
 
Performs clerical and receptionist work with routine difficulty, under close supervision, in a Justice Court.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
 
Perform routine lists, indexing and inputting in computer all Department of Public Safety citations; maintain the docket for court appearances.  Attend traffic court sessions and record disposition of traffic cases.  File citations, dispositions, and other court records.  Send notices on delinquent payments and follow through with the collection of court ordered fines and sanctions.  Accept voluntary bail forfeitures on traffic citations.  Financial duties include receiving and receipting fines, bonds, fees and other monies.  Serve as a telephone and counter receptionist for the office.  Type and file routine complaints, warrants, summons, orders to show cause, notices and other legal instruments.  Manage collection department by sending new defaults, receiving and releasing accounts paid in full with the collection agency.  Prepare affidavits and marriage licenses.  Accurately completes dispositions of cases and submits these forms to agencies such as Motor Vehicle Division and DPS criminal History Records.  Assist the public to the extent possible with filing of forms.  Complete record searches for the FBI and other government agencies, employers, and the public.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
 
Knowledge of legal procedures in the Justice Court.  Knowledge of basic arithmetic and spelling.  Knowledge of codes of conduct and ethical guidelines.  Knowledge of standard office practice.  Knowledge of computer and programs, 10 keys, and typing.  Proficiency in the operation of office equipment such as copying machines, calculators, typewriter and fax.  Faculty of working effectively with the public.  Ability to assume responsibility for funds and receipts records.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others including Judges, Attorneys, Law Enforcement, and other agencies such as the Arizona Supreme Court.  Attend 16 hours of COJET hours and ethics training.  The ability to successfully deal with difficult or angry people without losing professionalism.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
One year or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the capacity to perform the tasks of the position and a High School Diploma

(Position is in the classified service and is FLSA non-exempt)
