NATURE OF WORK:
Provide wide range of collection and public library services. Under supervision evaluate and recommend methods, sources and processes that would be most effective for supplying and operating libraries in the district. Develop, recommend and upon approval implement new services, processes and systems as needed. Exercise considerable independence and discretion within established guidelines. Supervise three or more employees. May include evening and weekend shifts.
Work with staff to achieve objectives established by community developed strategic plans. Promote high-quality, responsive customer service. Analyze collection services and public services needs then recommend effective responses. Analyze procedures and recommend changes when warranted. Participate in the hiring process, supervision and evaluation of staff. Analyze staff training needs, recommend, monitor, and evaluate training. Research apply for and administer grants. Participate on committees and projects. Consult with and advise staff. In the absence of the Library District Director, an employee in this class temporarily assumes responsibility for the duties of that position. Other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Technical Services emphasis – District Wide
Coordinate technical services activities for all branch libraries. Perform original and complex copy cataloging. Supervise database maintenance. Develop, provide and update printed guidelines for best use of integrated library system for public services staff and for the public. Train public service staff in the most effective use of integrated library system. Coordinate and prioritize the ordering, receiving, cataloging and processing of materials to respond to the needs and interests of library users. Research and introduce new formats, media and resources for collection development to library managers. Analyze collection services and recommend changes in procedure and staffing patterns to achieve optimum throughput. Develop and update policy and procedure manuals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Experience supervising, including the ability to train staff and to model and promote cooperation. Strong customer service orientation. Substantial knowledge of standard library principles and practices. Substantial knowledge of Apache County Library District policies and procedures.
Ability to work collaboratively with all library staff to improve library service delivery to the public. Motivation and skills to build lasting cooperative working relationships. Ability to identify problems and develop realistic solutions. Ability to identify and address weaknesses in services, collections, and staff. Ability to establish and implement systematic methods of accomplishing goals. Excellent organizational skills.
Excellent research methods, including online database and Internet research skills. Computer proficiency including effective use of operating systems, productivity software, integrated library systems, and online public access catalogs. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to conduct all work with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. Ability to handle frequent interruptions. Ability to travel to various library sites if required. Must possess a valid AZ driver’s license and proof of insurance.
College degree and three to five years of supervisory experience or any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Master’s degree from an ALA accredited school in Library or Information Science preferred.
(Position is in the classified service and is FLSA exempt)
This position’s hourly pay is $21.16
