
St. Johns Road Yard
NATURE OF WORK:
Under general direction, performs duties of considerable difficulty in the maintenance and construction of county roads and related duties as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
The following list may not include all the duties required of this position; loading and unloading of equipment and road materials; perform labor job necessary in the maintenance of roads and facilities used in the maintenance of roads; operate proficiently all pieces of medium to heavy equipment used in road maintenance and understand the maintenance requirements of said equipment; perform shop duties such as tire repair, lubrication of equipment, assisting in equipment repair, cleaning of shop facilities, operation of shop equipment and tools; serve as lead man on particular assignments; relief operator on various equipment when needed; involvement in work scheduling and project planning; represent the foreman in his/her absence; involvement in solving personnel and customer problems; involvement in training of personnel; make decisions on job site in absence of foreman.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the operation of all equipment; knowledge of the maintenance needs of all equipment; knowledge of the safe operation of all equipment; knowledge of the overall operations of the particular road yard they work in; knowledge in the correct requirements of road construction and maintenance; basic knowledge of county policies
Ongoing development in skills required in the day-to-day decisions and operations of the yard they work in and in dealing with the customers we deal with.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor; ability to work well with other team members; ability to give instruction to fellow team members and to provide the necessary follow up on job assignments; ability to continue operations in the absence of foreman.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in road construction and maintenance work and the safe operation of related equipment; experience in leadership and delegation; experience in the economics of a road yard operation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Arizona Commercial Driver License, Class A.
(Positions is in classified service and is FLSA non-exempt)
This position’s hourly pay range is $19.35 – $21.29 (Salary commensurate with experience)
