NATURE OF WORK:
Under general supervision, performs complex office and secretarial duties of considerable difficulty including planning, organizing and performing a wide variety of administrative services.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Assist the public and other County employees over the telephone by answering and transferring incoming calls; types from written drafts, enters most correspondence into word processor; composes routine letters, arranges appointments, meetings and prepares agenda; takes minutes of meetings; may maintain personal riles; maintains various files related to departmental activities; answers complex questions from employees and the public in person and over the telephone; prepares complex clerical records and reports from a variety of materials; processes confidential matters; maintains and orders office supplies; distributes incoming mail; may be responsible for securing and turning off certain office machines; assists in the coordination of departmental activities with other County departments, community organizations; local jurisdictions and others; may act as receptionist; performs jobs as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment; considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic, punctuation and grammatical usage; high degree of initiative, dependability and originality.
Skill in operating standard office machines: work processors, fax machines, typewriters.
Ability to: plan and carry out work with a minimum of supervision; compose correspondence; to answer queries in a clear and precise manner; to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; to type a minimum of 55 words per minute.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, three (3) years of experience in performing secretarial and/or general office work; education about the High School level may be used to substitute for one year of experience requirement on a year for year basis.
(Position is in the classified service and is FLSA non-exempt)
This position pays $12.15 per hour
